The Anambra State Command of the Department of Security Services, (DSS) has rescued the elder brother of Dr. Cosmas Maduka the automobile sales giant, Mr Pius Maduka from the den of kidnappers.
His abductors had insisted on keeping him after his family paid a ransom of N12 million for his release.
The victim, Maduka, who is a motorcycle spare parts dealer in Nnewi was abducted by gunmen believed to be kidnappers on his way to his office on July 4, 2014 at Umudim, Nnewi in Nnewi North Local Government Area.
Narrating his ordeal in the hands of the kidnappers, Maduka, who was constantly praising God for his rescue said he was starved for three days before he was fed with two slices of bread and one sachet of pure water daily, until his rescue on Monday.
He said, “As I came out of the boot of the car, they blindfolded me, tied my legs and hands and dumped me inside one room.
“Since that day, they beat me, torture me and asked for very huge amount that should be provided by my younger brother for them to leave me, otherwise, they will kill me there. I was there till this morning when I heard a lot of noise, finally I found out that security men surrounded the building, fighting to rescue me and here I am today thanking God for saving my life”.
Those arrested according to the State Director of Security, Anambra State, Mr. Alex Okeiyi, who paraded the suspects gave their names as Chigozie Ebere, from Umungwa Obowo and lives in Amaifeke Orlu all in Imo State and in whose house the victim was kept and Bartholomew Ugwu (aka Jack-Moore) from Umunze in Orumba South Local Government, Anambra State, while Ikechukwu from Nwangele Local Government of Imo State was shot dead.

Explaining further, Okeiyi said, “The gang had demanded ransom in the sum of N100 million, which it scaled down to N50 million. The victim’s family had paid the sum of N12 million, expecting he would be released but the hoodlums refused to do so, insisting on payment of the outstanding N38 million, until the rescue operation.
“The investigation also showed that the hideout where Maduka was rescued has been an old camp of the gang, where several victims kidnapped in Anambra State and Imo State, were kept until ransoms were paid for their release”.
Okeiyi expressed joy that the leader of the gang identified as Ifeanyi, (aka Obele) was also arrested by the River State Command of DSS, the same Monday on a tip off.
Speaking to newsmen, the three suspects arrested confirmed their involvements in the gang, affirming that Obele is their leader.
