Indications emerged yesterday that the Nasarawa State House
of Assembly has hatched plans to impeach Governor Tanko Al-Makura from Abuja.
It was gathered that the 21 members of the Nasarawa state
House of Assembly including the deputy governor of the state, Damishi Barau,
will relocate to a private home in Abuja to carry out the impeachment process.
A credible source, who craved anonymity said that the
lawmakers resorted to operating from Abuja to avoid distraction following
public outcry by Nasarawa citizens against their plot to remove the governor.
When reminded that the Supreme Court had ruled that a
governor’s impeachment proceedings must be carried out in the state’s assembly
complex and not otherwise, the source added: “All I can tell you is that the
impeachment will be executed in Abuja for certain strategic reasons.”
