Teenage girl commits suicide over Brazil’s tragic loss to Germany


A 15-year old girl took the term “die hard fan” a little too literally. The teenager, Pragya Thapa, from East Nepal, committed suicide by hanging herself after Brazil’s epic and humiliating loss to Germany in the 2014 FIFA World Cup semifinal Tuesday. According to the Nepal Police,  Thapa,  hanged herself Wednesday morning after some of her friends teased her that her team had suffered a humiliating loss to Germany. The disheartened Pragya, a 10th hung herself when her mother and sister also joined her friends and took Germany’s side, police said.

“She was anxious to see Brazil in the final, but it went down to Germany. Some of her friends started teasing her for supporting Brazil. Later in the morning, she took an extreme measure by hanging herself in her own room,” Sharad Thapa, a Nepal Police inspector, said after preliminary investigation. Pragya, who lived in a remote village around 250 miles from Nepal’s capital city Kathmandu, was found by her mother hanging from the ceiling in the room.
