President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday finally met with 160 Chibok parents 51 of the over 200 girls abducted from Government Secondary School in Chibok Borno State, who escaped from their captors.
Also president at the closed-door meeting holding at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, service chiefs, President of the Senate, David Mark, Governors Kashim Shettima of Borno and Isa Yuguda of Bauchi as well as members of the Federal Executive Council.
The visit earlier scheduled for last week, wherein nine parents and some of the escapee girls had shunned the invitation of President Jonathan to meet with them, is coming exactly 100 days after the girls who were writing their final year exams were kidnapped from their school.
The parents’ meeting with the president was brokered by Malala, who extracted a promise from the president that he would see the parents of the abducted female students.
The President had in the past three months refused to visit the Chibok community or host the distressed parents of the abducted girls.
Despite the flaks received by the President, he consistently refused to do any of the two, but instead choose to call those mounting pressure on him, particularly the Brings Back Our Girls to step up action in the rescue of the girls the hand work of the opposition.
Although details of the meeting is unknown as at the time of this report, it is expected that the meeting will afford the president the opportunity of hearing first hand from the girls the circumstances that surrounded their abduction and their experiences in the camp of Boko Haram.
The meeting, according to Presidency sources, would also enable the president to directly express his sympathy and solidarity with the parents.
Journalists were barred from the meeting, with the indication that the outcome will be made known to the entire world thereafter.
