According to TMZ, Orange Is the New Black writer Lauren Morelli is dating one of the show's stars, Samira Wiley — and has officially filed for divorce from her husband of two years.
Back in May, Morelli published a coming-out column on Mic.com,
writing that she realized she was a lesbian in 2012, shortly after she
was hired to write for the show. "While it certainly would have been
disorienting to begin to question my sexuality after three decades of
knowing myself, it was particularly blinding because I'd gotten married
only a few months before," she wrote. "It's now a punch in the gut every
time I have to say, 'I'm getting divorced because I'm gay.'" Continue
TMZ reports that Morelli and her
husband, Steve Basilone, have jointly filed for divorce and that the
split is amicable. There are numerous photos of Morelli and Wiley, who
plays Poussey on the Netflix series, holding hands together at last
month's Emmy Awards. While neither has confirmed the relationship
publicly, Morelli posted a picture on Instagram of the two of them
heading to the ceremony together (seen above).
Though she didn't mention her romance with Wiley specifically in her
original column, Morelli did hint that she was involved with someone
involved with the show. "I went through it all on set: I fell in love
with a woman, and I watched my life play out on screen," she wrote. In April, Morelli posted a picture of Wiley kissing her on Instagram with the caption, "Happy birthday to this lovely lady."
