15 dead, 52 houses destroyed as fresh violence breaks out in Nasarawa

Violence erupted in some parts of Nasarawa state in the early hours of Tuesday, claiming more than 15 lives with more than 52 houses affected as well as the destruction of some economic trees and farms.

Ismaila Nuuman, the state police spokesman confirmed the incident, but said only one person was killed adding that he was yet to be informed on the level of destruction of property in the state.
It was gathered that gunmen believed to be Fulani mercenaries stormed Gidan Gambo, an Eggon community in Lafia East Development area, where they shot at targeted homes, leaving 15 people dead with hundreds displaced.
 
The attackers who didn’t mind the early morning down pour were said to have been armed with brand new Ak 47 rifles which they used in carrying out their ambush against the community.
One of the residents who escaped being harmed by the attackers and fled to Lafia, the state capital told newsmen that he lost his father and two sisters in the attack.
