#WorldCup 2014: David Luiz apologizes to Brazilians after semi-final loss

Brazilian defender David Luiz has issued an apology to all Brazil fans after their humiliating defeat to Germany.

Host country Brazil, who lost 7 – 1 to Germany were left without their star players Neymar, who picked up an injury and their suspended captain Thiago Silva.

Speaking with Rede Globo, Luiz, who was named captain in Thiago’s absence said: ‘I just wanted to give some happiness to my people. To my people, who suffer so much already. Unfortunately we couldn’t do it. I’m sorry, everyone. Sorry to all Brazilians. I wanted to see my people smiling. Everyone knows how important it was for me to make the Brazilian people happy, even if just because of football.’
