Boko Haram shoots Nigerian Army Brigade Commander during gun battle

                                 
According to Sahara Reporters, a Nigerian Army Brigade Commander simply identified as Colonel Popoola who is the acting Brigade Commander of 23rd brigade in Yola Adamawa state was shot in the shoulder on Monday November 17th during a gun battle to reclaim Hong and Gombi towns in Adamawa state from Boko Haram militants.

Colonel Popoola had led a team of soldiers drafted from Jos in a battle to reclaim the cities when he was shot in the shoulder. An army source said he has been transferred from the military hospital in Adamawa to the University College Hospital Ibadan where he will receive better treatment.

Following the death of his son, Senator Jim Nwobodo has revealed that Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo jnr died due to the negligence of a doctor.

The senator made the disclosure on Tuesday, 18 November, when Abia State Governor Theodore Orji visited him in Enugu.

According to Nwobodo, his son was cured of cancer at the Anderson Medical Cancer Centre in Houston, Texas, United States, where he was advised to stay longer in the but he insisted on returning home because he was homesick.

Majid Michel impostor defrauds white woman of $35,000 for mum’s burial

One Kelvin Ogodogu has been arrested for impersonating Ghanaian actor, Majid Michel and defrauding two white women of $5,000, $30,000 respectively.

According to reports, the impostor was arrested while trying to dupe unsuspecting fans and solicit for money for the burial of the late actor’s mum.

                               
He was arrested after defrauding a US-based lady of some dollars, supposedly meant to help in the preparations of the actor’s mum’s funeral.

CAF confirms Equatorial Guinea will replace Morocco as AFCON 2015 hosts

                            
The Confederation of African Football (CAF), have today confirmed that Equatorial Guinea will host the 2015 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Morocco were initially awarded the rights to host the tournament, but they pulled out this month, because of fears over the spread of the deadly Ebola virus.

Equatorial Guinea emerged front-runners to host the rest of the continent, after CAF president Issa Hayatou was confirmed to be visiting President Teodoro Obiang Nguema on Thursday. Although Qatar had signified interest in hosting if neessary, it is udnerstood that CAF were eager to keep the competition in Africa.

US denies they refused to assist Nigeria combat Boko Haram

                       
The United States has reacted to claims by the federal government that it is obstructing the Nigerian military’s quest to procure weapons that would bolster its war against the extremist Boko Haram sect, by disclosing that it has actually increased its support for the Nigerian military, especially in the last six months.

The Spokesperson for the US Department of State, Jen Paski, in a press briefing on Wednesday in Washington, disclosed that the American government has been supporting the Nigerian military in the area of intelligence sharing, training of soldiers and other measures in combating the insurgency.

ISIS Announces own Currency

      
Terrorist group ISIS, has announced that it will soon start minting its own currency in gold, silver and copper.According to CNN, the currency will consist of seven coins: two gold, three silver and two copper.

ISIS revealed that its rationale for formulating the currency is to “stay away from the tyrant’s financial system,” and that the decision is “purely dedicated to God and will remove Muslims from the global economic system that is based on satanic usury.”

No Nigerian child should be born with HIV – Jonathan

                                         

President Goodluck Jonathan has assured that by 2016 no Nigerian child would be born positive with HIV/AIDS.
The president was reacting to the recent protest staged by the Network of People Living With HIV/AIDS, where the victims accused the FG of abandoning them.
He also noted that the Federal Government had “begun the release of funds for the implementation of the President’s Comprehensive Response Plan for HIV/AIDS.”

7-month pregnant woman dies after romp with lover

                           

The police in Anambra State are interrogating a man to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a seven-month pregnant woman during a marathon sex bout with him in Onitsha.

The man (names withheld), according to a police source, had allegedly taken the deceased to an undisclosed hotel in Onitsha, only for the hotel staff to discover that the woman was dead in the morning.

A 35-year-old man, Andrew Ekanem, has been arrested by the police for allegedly raping his neighbour’s daughter in the Bariga area of Lagos State. 

And according to PUNCH Metro, the 14-year-old victim was still undergoing a six-month treatment for tuberculosis when she was attacked by the suspect on Monday morning. She was the first of her parents’ children. 

Local vigilante ‘recapture’ Mubi, drive Boko Haram out

               
There are reports that members of the Civilian JTF, a local vigilante in Adamawa state have "recaptured" Mubi town from Boko Haram members after they launched a daring night time attack  between yesterday November 12th and today Nov 13th, defeating the insurgents and driving them out of town.
Confirming the development to Premium Times, the director of press to the Adamawa Governor, Phineas Elisha, said the synergy between the vigilante group and the Nigerian military helped to chase the insurgents out of the town which they captured two weeks ago
