Governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi says the major reason he and the first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan fell out was because he refused to share the state money with her. Gov Amaechi said this yesterday October 24th at the graduation ceremony of the Pioneer graduands of the Ignatus Ajuru University of Education held at Rumuolumeni in Rivers state. He said

"Remember, when I became governor, I fought militancy. Right there where you built a new house used to be a hole where they pass into the river nd escape. The security report reached me and I came here and chased the militants away. I asked them to fence the school premises and block the hole. I have to protect you because it is my responsibility. Cameroonian soldiers kill 40 Boko Haram members in border clash

                          
Cameroonian authorities yesterday confirmed that its soldiers killed 40 Boko Haram militants during a clash.

The insurgents had carried out raids on three villages on Cameroon’s territory.

A statement obtained by the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), said the fight in Gouye town near Fotokol in the far north of Cameroon bordering Nigeria also claimed four civilian lives.

Nick Cannon donates his $2m diamond-encrusted shoes to charity

         
You remember the $2.2million diamond-encrusted loafers Nick Cannon wore to the grand finale of America's Got Talent in September? Well, he has donated it to a children's hospital. The actor and TV host donated the foot wear to the St Mary's Hospital for Children in Queens, New York.

The shoes will be auctioned off at a later date and the hospital will keep all the money made from selling it. Nick says he's happy to donate the shoes

"I want to keep this children's hospital going. It's one of the oldest children hospitals in New York. You got there and it puts everything into perspective. You see all that they are going through and that they can still have a smile on their faces. I get so much out of it. I'm glad to do this" Nick said

Eight years after, abandoned kids reunite with father

                                
Emotions ran wild on Friday when Segun Adepegba, the father of the three children abandoned in a boarding school in Abule-Iroko, in the Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, finally reunited with his children.

Adepegba, who visited Solid Rock Model College where they had been abandoned for eight years, was locked in a tight embrace with his children, promising never to leave them again.

Adepegba told his children, “I am sorry for leaving you, Titi, Seun and Seyi. I am really very sorry. I have missed you all so much. I will not leave you again.”

Many were greatly moved as father and children bonded in what they described as “a mystery and a miracle.”

Heartbreaking: 2 Year Old Girl Contracts Ebola Virus in Mali

     
Mali’s health ministry on Friday in Bamako confirmed a case of Ebola virus in a two-year old girl, NAN reports. 

The ministry said this was coming weeks after Mali has so far been cleared of the disease.

 It said the girl, who had arrived from neighbouring Guinea, was taken to a hospital in the western city of Kayes with possible symptoms on Wednesday, and was confirmed to have Ebola the following day.

The ministry assured that people who had contact with the girl have been identified and authorities were taking the necessary measures.

A US doctor based in New York who recently returned from treating Ebola patients in Guinea has become the first person in the city to test positive for Ebola. 33 year old Dr. Craig Allen Spencer (pictured above) had been working with Doctors Without Borders in Guinea, and returned to NYC on October 17th. He tested positive to the virus the Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan New York yesterday October 23rd.

Boko Haram frees abducted women, girls rumoured married off to insurgents

                  

The Boko Haram insurgents, who reportedly abducted about 50 women and girls from two border villages between Adamawa and Borno states have freed the women among their captives.

This was disclosed in an interview by villagers, who spoke on the issue with newsmen on the telephone from their hide-outs.

They however, said that the exact number of those released could not be ascertained, but that no fewer than 45 girls were still being detained.

Diezani Alison-Madueke sister’s reportedly kidnapped in Port Harcourt

                            
According to DailyPost, Thursday night has it that some gunmen have reportedly abducted Osio Agama, the younger sister to Nigeria’s Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Agama was allegedly whisked away by men of the underworld in Port Harcourt, Rivers State to an unknown destination.

Man Arrested for Smuggling 100 Pounds of used G-strings into Zimbabwe

       
A man in Zimbabwe has been arrested for smuggling 100 pounds of second-hand G-strings, thongs, and regular pants into the country. 

RadarNG reports that the man was apprehended at the Sango Border Post by the Zimbabwean Revenue Authority (Zimra).

It is against the law in the country to import used garments, whether used or donated, as the country wants to protect its domestic textile industry, and guard against the health risks associated with the use of second-hand underwear.

However, because of the current economic crisis many people are being forced to purchase used clothing, including undergarments, which are often donated by developed countries.

After many months of suspense, President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday opened up on his intention to seek re-election during the 2015 presidential election.

All organs of the Peoples Democratic Party had before now endorsed the President as the party’s sole candidate for the election.

Barely one week after the world health organization declared Nigeria free of the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, President Goodluck Jonathan has given a nod for the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control to support Ebola-ravaged countries of Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone.

The president said health workers would help the country in their fight against the killer disease, which has sent many to the grave.

A Nigerian man based in Maryland, Dominic Adesanya, (pictured above) has been arrested after jumping the White House Fence. According to police reports, around 7.15pm yesterday Wednesday October 22nd, Adesanya, 23, climbed the fence on the North Lawn of the building and got about 20 yards past the fence before he was taken down by Secret Service and dogs.

He's currently in police custody but is being treated in a hospital for injuries he sustained during the encounter. He was attacked by K.9 dogs. Continue to see photos from the incident...

Man cut into pieces at railway crossing line in Ibadan

This horrific scene happened around 5.30pm today at the railway crossing area in Bodija Ojurin in Ibadan. A man was found dead cut in two on the railway tracks. There was a bomb explosion at a bus station in Azare town in Bauchi state late last night, which killed at least five people and wounded at least 10 people. It was a suicide bomber, suspected to be a member of Boko Haram.

Boko Haram: Reps approve Jonathan’s $1bn loan request

                                
House of Representatives on Wednesday approved the $1bn loan request by President Goodluck Jonathan to equip the Armed Forces and train personnel for the ongoing war against insurgency.

Members considered and adopted in plenary, the report on the loan earlier submitted by the Joint Committee on Aids/Loans/Debt Management and Finance.

The first recommendation of the committee‎ was “approve the request of Mr. President on the need for his administration to borrow not more than $1bn for the purpose of tackling the current national security challenges.”

Jonathan effects minor shake-up in federal cabinet

                          
President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday tinkered with his cabinet as he directed Dr. Nurudeen Mohammed to take over as the Supervising Minister of Information to fill the gap created by the resignation of the former Minister, Labaran Maku. Dr. Nurudeen is the Minister of State II, for Foreign Affairs.

Mohammed spoke to State House Correspondents at the end of Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by Jonathan.

According to Mohammed, the Minister of State I, Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwuliri is to take over as the substantive Minister of State, Education to fill the vacuum created by the departure of Mr. Nyesom Wike while the Minister of Special Duties, Taminu Turaki (SAN) will act as the Supervising Minister of Labour and Productivity.

Judge sentences robber to death by hanging for allegedly stealing N9,000

                           
Lagos High Court, Igbosere, on Wednesday sentenced an armed robber to death by hanging for disposing his victim of N9, 000.

The convict, ‎Onyekachi Abazu, was accused of robbing one Obioma Obiekwe of her N9, 000 and a BMW car marked CM659JJJ, at a gun point.

He committed the offence with others at large on June 13, 2007 at Gowon Estate, Ipaja‎.
