Ex-Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff today denied allegations him that he is one of the main sponsors of the Islamic fundamentalist sect, Boko Haram.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Sheriff threatened to sue Stephen Davies, the Australian negotiator who recently claimed that the militants named him as one of their sponsors.  He also expressed preparedness to face any panel in the world to clear his name. Continue

Super Eagles midfielder, John Obi Mikel, entered Nigeria for national duty and well prepared to take all the necessary precautions against the deadly Ebola Virus. 
 
Obi who arrived at the Eagles Calabar camp this afternoon made a humorous appearance when he showed up for lunch wearing protective gloves.

 “Coach I have up to four hand gloves and if you don’t mind, I can hand one pair to you,” Mikel jokingly told Keshi.

US Wedding Ends in Bloodshed, Heartbreak & Arrests After Groom Flirts with Pregnant Woman

There may be no “happily ever after” for these newlyweds.

A wedding reception in Pittsburgh turned ugly on Monday night when the groom got into a fight after allegedly flirting with one of the reception workers,  who was pregnant, CBS Pittsburgh reports.

According to reports, the saga began when the groom, 33-year-old Mark Williams started getting “touch feely” with the reception worker, flirting with her and trying to “pour alcohol down her throat” even after she told him she was pregnant.

Furious, the woman called her boyfriend and told him about the incident. And so the boyfriend, 20-year-old Tyler Smith went to the reception and confronted the groom, and they began to fight. Smith’s brother, David, also joined the fight.

Police arrived at the scene and found two of the three men covered in blood. They were all arrested, and have since been released.

Ebola: Rivers State Allocates N300 Million to Fight Virus

 

Rivers State has allocated N300 Million to fight Ebola Virus.

Governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi, made the announcement on Tuesday during a visit from Country Director of the World Health Organisation, Rui Vaz, Punch reports. 

Emphasizing his administration’s commitment to fighting the deadly disease, Amaechi said:

“Whatever it takes for us to overcome Ebola, please, I will do it because it costs more if Ebola is on the loose than if it is contained.

So, we are happy that the World Health Organisation is here to assist Rivers State. We are happy that the World Health Organisation appreciates the dangers of Ebola to our communities.

We need to contain Ebola.  If there is no cure, then there is containment so that more persons don’t contract it. The Rivers State Government is prepared to take all the responsibility.  The citizens are ours.

…They cannot be talking about politics in the midst of Ebola. We are talking about lives. For me, I am the governor of Rivers State….I am elected to protect the lives of Rivers people and to ensure that they are alive.  That is my responsibility to the people of the State.”

Cameroonian soldiers kill 40 Boko Haram fighters

 

Military authorities in Cameroon say their men have killed no fewer than 40 Boko Haram militants in Fotokol, a community in northeastern Cameroon, close to the Nigerian border.

The sect members had reportedly attacked an army convoy, forcing the soldiers to engage them in a shootout.

The insurgents, who could not withstand the superior firepower of the Cameroonian forces fled.

Speaking on Tuesday, Lieutenant-Colonel Didier Badjeck said: “Dozens of Boko Haram militants on Monday afternoon raided the Cameroonian town of Fotokol near the border with Nigeria.

“The gunmen opened fire on a column of Cameroonian soldiers who, in turn, fired back. At least 40 Boko Haram militants were killed during the exchange of fire and two cars )belonging to the attackers) were captured and burnt”, he added.

While confirming the wounding of a Cameroonian soldier in the course of the exchange, the military chief asserted that normalcy had been restored in the community.

EBOLA - Update, Suspected ABU Student In Kaduna Tests Negative

 

Yesterday there were reports that a student of Law at Ahmadu Bello University, showed symptoms of the deadly Ebola virus, but fortunately he's tested negative to the virus.

Deputy British High Commissioner to Nigeria slumps, dies at Lagos Airport

The Deputy British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Parker, Tuesday, slumped and died at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos.

Leadership reports that Parker who flew into the county aboard an American Airline, took ill while on-board.

The plane had arrived the country from Atlanta Georgia around 4 pm on Tuesday.

Medical personnel attached to the terminal tried to revive him, but without success.

An ambulance was then called in to take Mr. Parker to a morgue.

An eyewitness account recalled that the diplomat grabbed his chest, screaming “my heart”.

He slumped before the health officials could reach him.

ISIS released a brutal video today showing the beading of a second U.S journalist, 31 year old Steven Sotlof. Sotloff had appeared in another video where U.S Journalist James Foley was killed two weeks ago (left. Sotloff pictured right at the execution scene). And it looks like Sotloff was killed by the same executioner who killed Foley on August 19th. He had same British accent and before beheading Sotloff, the terrorist said;

Following the released nude photo of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence on social media, the on-line impersonators have claimed to have private pictures of 100 A-list Hollywood celebrities.

The 100 A-list celebrities alleged to be targeted include reality TV star Kim Kardashian, singer Rihanna, models Candice Swanepoel, Cara Delevingne and Kelly Brook, and TV host Cat Deeley.

The anonymous hacker reportedly gained access to private photos via Apple’s on-line storage system iCloud.

Conductor Bites Passenger’s Ear Over N20

According to P.M NEWS report, the incident happened at Micon bus stop in Egbeda after a disagreement between Ajayi and the passenger, Kabiru Olugbemi.

It was gathered that Olugbemi boarded a bus and paid Ajayi  N30 instead of the N50 the conductor demanded.

When Olugbemi got to Micon bus stop en route Egbeda, he alighted from the bus but just as he tried to walk away, an angry Ajayi reportedly grabbed his left ear and bit it off, throwing it on the ground.

An eyewitness informed that the victim bled profusely and was rushed to a hospital with the falling ear where a doctor confirmed that the ear was dead and cannot be fixed back.

After the matter was reported to Idimu police Station, Ajayi was arrested and charged to court.

He was charged with inflicting permanent injury on the victim under the Criminal Code. When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.

The presiding magistrate, Mr P.E.Nwaka granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He was remanded in prison custody pending when he fulfills his bail condition.

The matter was adjourned till 6 October, 2014.
